‘From the Darkness Came Light’, this was the name of our art competition run in conjunction with Elizabeth Darlington and her art exhibition of the same name. What a competition it was, with many excellent entry’s to choose from the task of deciding our winners was not an easy one, nevertheless a choice had to be made.
The winner of our junior competition was this excellent painting by Mabel Easthope. The scene is framed with shadow, natural drawing the spectator into the beautiful sunlit center. This marvelous interpretation of the theme features the figures of a young girl and her many animal friends basking in the sunlight. This painting shows wonderful watercolour technique with interesting blending. A painting to be proud of.
Now for the winner of the adult competition, this breathtaking scene by Sarah Lacon. Painted on canvas, this striking image of a hilltop monument beneath a full moon, gleaming with the golden light of the rising sun, is a beautiful and evocative interpretation of our theme. The light of the dawn pushing the darkness away to reveal a plethora of colours in the night sky. A stunning piece of artwork.
