Whittington Castle was the first community run castle in England and community is still at the heart of what we stand for.

The Castle is open all-year round and entry is free, although, at times during special events’ there may be entry prices. Please check our events’ page for ticket information.

Income from our increasingly popular kitchen@thecastle, weddings and events not only support the Castle’s upkeep but also enable us to support an active schools’ programme. There are information and interpretation boards and several artifacts on display, including a complete set of armour found in the moat.

Car parking
We are a self-funding Castle, so car parking fees apply to all visitors with monies being used for ongoing maintenance and repairs. Please pay for car parking at the shop or kitchen@thecastle and collect a parking ticket. Current charges are a minimum of £2.00.

We’re dog friendly
Dogs are welcome, including in kitchen@thecastle. Please help yourself to free dog biscuits and look out for our doggie ice cream.
Please always keep your dog on a lead and kindly clear up after them.

Accessibility
Much of the Castle is wheelchair friendly, apart from the viewing mound.
Please take care on the steps which will be slippery in wet weather.

Ecology and environment
We manage a 12-acres site including a moat. These provide a rich habitat for wildflowers, insects, birds, ducks, swans and other wildlife.
