Visit Whittington Castle

On the Welsh border in beautiful North Shropshire sits Whittington Castle. With a history stretching back to at least the 12th century, this castle has had many roles, from a fortified castle for the old Lords of the March, to a wool merchants romantic retreat in the 18th century. Today we’re proud to welcome visitors to this truly special site. The best part is that it’s free.

The castle grounds are open 24 hours a day and are free to access, though we do charge £2 for parking with an annual parking permit available for £30 from https://bransbywilson.zatpermit.com/app/locations/marker/77

All parts of the site are dog friendly and our team are always happy to see our four-legged customers, though we do request that dogs be kept on leads.

Nearly the entire site is wheelchair accessible, with the only exception being the old motte come viewing mound.

We have a fantastic selection of wildlife at the castle, with our friendly ducks being a firm favourite. We always encourage buying some of our duck food to keep our feathered friends happy and well fed.
